We’ve Got America’s Favorites! American Idol’s Haley Reinhart, America’s Got Talent Winner Eugene Murphy, Jr. Sings for WV Flood Relief,
Party Music, and Pageantry

The Vocal Workshop, Haley Reinhart, Landau Eugene Murphy, Jr., I&I Riddim, Star Pageantry International 2016, Miss Intercontinental United States at Bethesda Blues and Jazz Supper Club 2016Wednesday (7/20) Don’t miss the next performance of The Vocal Workshop! The Vocal Workshop, under the direction of Chris Grasso, is an eight-week program designed to guide aspiring vocalists in their journey towards becoming jazz singers. The Workshop offers high-quality instruction in the art of jazz singing, in a setting with other vocalists who share the same goals. This showcase will feature the current singers performing some great music, accompanied by Chris Grasso on piano, Zack Pride on bass, and Ele Rubenstein on drums. You are invited to come out and enjoy the performances for only $10, good for either or both sets. Join us at 7pm, and you are welcome to stay for the 9pm show.

Thursday (7/21) We’ve got the incredible Haley Reinhart! Since placing #3 on FOX’s American Idol in 2011, Haley Reinhart has had over 50 million views on YouTube. She was originally signed with Interscope Records, but then went on to perform with Scott Bradlee’s Post Modern Jukebox. With that group, her cover of Elvis Presley’s “Can’t Help Falling in Love” was used in an Extra Gum commercial and became a viral sensation. Her latest solo release, Better, debuted at #22 on the Billboard’s Independent Album Chart. Accompanying her will be Dave Damiani & The No Vacancy Orchestra, who are in constant rotation on XM 71 Siriusly Sinatra and radio stations all over the country. They have done music for POLO – Ralph Lauren, CBS – Vegas, SINATRA 100, Marriott Corporation, FOX, ABC’s Sonoran Living, and many more. The show begins at 8pm.

Friday (7/22) When Landau Eugene Murphy Jr. showed up to audition for NBC TV’s America’s Got Talent in 2010, he was singing to pass the time while grinding out a living washing cars in his hometown of Logan, WV (population 3,000). Wowing the judges with his back story of homelessness and determination to succeed for his family, coupled with interpretations of classics from Cole Porter, Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra and others, Landau walked away with the million dollar grand prize in front of 14 million weekly viewers. In response to the devastating flooding in his home state of West Virginia, Murphy, Jr. is teaming up with Bethesda Blues and Jazz Supper Club for a special benefit concert in conjunction with the Red Cross of West Virginia. A portion of each ticket sold will go directly to flood relief efforts to aid the thousands of residents affected by what has been called “once in a thousand years flooding.” The Landau Rebuild West Virginia Flood Relief Benefit Concert begins at 8pm.

Saturday (7/23) Prepare for an electrifying journey to the Caribbean with I&I Riddim! The name captures the spirit of this band’s music: “Riddim” is reggae’s irresistible upbeat dance rhythm, and “I&I” expresses Bob Marley’s “One Love” equality for all people. I&I Riddim thrills audiences with an arsenal of favorite reggae standards, the best modern reggae, and a few reggae-style pop-rock and calypso/soca tunes. I&I Riddim is known for its exciting performance style and has shared the stage with some of the reggae greats including Bunny Wailer and Junior Marvin both from Bob Marley’s Wailers. This award-winning Washington, DC band is well-equipped to transform any stage into a true Caribbean party experience. The reggae sounds get grooving at 8pm.

Sunday (7/24) The first Star Pageantry International 2016 pageant will be held in conjunction with the Miss Intercontinental United States pageant on our stage. The vision of Star Pageantry International is driven by the potential and capacity of a variety of women and men, even those who may have been excluded by other systems. This includes individuals where their opportunities have been hindered due to age or life circumstances. They look for leaders who are ambitious and very savvy, and ready to take on responsibilities focusing on changing the world. Each year, the Miss Intercontinental pageant works to provide a fair environment where young women compete not with each other, but against themselves as they are encouraged to identify goals, overcome roadblocks, and obtain success through preparation, organization, and self-discipline. Doors open at 3pm and the pageantry begins at 4pm. Tickets are available here.

Celebrating Our 3rd Anniversary with The Duke Ellington Orchestra
and Sharón Clark, plus a Week Full of Great Music and Comedy!

BB&J 3rd Anniversary with the Duke Ellington Orchestra and Sharon Clark, Daryl Davis Presents Deletta Gillespie, The Jam with Gary Grainger, Red Eyed Sinatra, Rahsaan Patterson, Vocal Workshop Showcase, and Joe Clair and Friends at Bethesda Blues and Jazz Supper Club, Feb 2016Monday (2/22) Deletta Gillespie brought the house down last November, and she’s back by popular demand! One of the finest blues, jazz and R&B vocalists you’ll find anywhere, the singer/actress has performed for Michael Jackson, Patti Austin, Al Jarreau and others. She also serves as a university Performing Arts coach, teaching countless other artists how to work a stage. Come see Deletta Gillespie strut her own stuff and show us how it’s done! Host Daryl Davis is a Howard University graduate who, apart from The Daryl Davis Band, has worked as a master piano player with Elvis Presley’s Jordanaires, Chuck Berry, The Legendary Blues Band, Percy Sledge, Jerry Lee Lewis, The Coasters, The Platters, The Drifters, and many others. We’ve got half price on select bottles of wine and admission is FREE. The show starts at 7:30pm.

Tuesday (2/23) Calling all musicians and singers! Bring your voices and musical instruments out to The Jam! Gary Grainger & Friends, some of the nation’s most talented musicians, are ready to back you up on our stage. Get on the mic or just come out and enjoy some incredible music. The Jam gets going at 8pm.

Wednesday (2/24) Don’t miss NYC-based Red Eyed Sinatra! This instrumental power trio weaves through funk, rock, electronica, ambient, and improve and draws upon influences spanning Wayne Krantz, D’Angelo, Bill Frisell, Jimi Hendrix, Rush, Miles Davis, and Radiohead. You already know the band members from other popular endeavors. The band is guitarist Bob Lanzetti (seen with the Grammy-winning band Snarky Puppy, David Crosby, and Lalah Hathaway), bassist Steve Jenkins (seen with Vernon Reid, Screaming Headless Torsos, Cindy Blackman, and others) and drummer Devin Collins (seen with Elliot Moss, Felix Pastorius, and others). It would be easy to call the band a “supergroup” but it’s fueled by its own unique chemistry first and foremost. Also performing will be Beast from the East. The show begins at 8pm.

Friday (2/26) We’ve got two exciting performances by Rahsaan Patterson! Longtime fans have watched Rah grow from the skinny, wide-eyed boy with the big eyes and bigger voice on the classic children’s program, Kids Incorporated, to one of the most influential, yet underrated soul men on the planet. His performances in clubs and concert halls around the globe are powerful affairs where the artist and the songs bleeds out joy, pain, longing, despair, and ecstasy. There’s a veritable who’s who of talented folks Patterson has written and produced for and with (from pop diva Brandy to fellow under-sung MVP Van Hunt), and collaborated with (Ledisi, Lalah Hathaway).  Icons including Chaka Khan have sung his praises and ushered him into the hall of the greats. Doors open at 5pm for the 7pm concert, and at 9:30pm for the show beginning at 10pm.

Saturday (2/27) Don’t miss the next performance of The Vocal Workshop. The singers will be performing some great music, accompanied by Chris Grasso on piano, Zack Pride on bass; and David McDonald on drums. The Vocal Workshop is an eight-week program designed to guide aspiring vocalists in their journey towards becoming jazz singers. The Workshop offers high-quality instruction in the art of jazz singing, in a setting with other vocalists who share the same goals. For the $10 fee, you are welcome to stay for either or both sets, which begin at 12:30pm and 2:30pm.

Next up on Saturday night… our #1 Comedian/Host and one of DC’s finest, Joe Clair (WPGC 95.5, Joe Clair Morning Show)! Joe Clair and Friends will bring us the Oh So Cold Comedy Show – Expect a night of LMFAO!  The featured comedians will be Timmy Hall, Alex Scott, & Big Mac. You know what times it is! Get ready to eat, drink, and laugh because in Be’thesda… #thefunnydontstop! Seating begins at 5pm and 9:30pm for our two big shows at 7pm and 10pm.

Sunday (2/28) It’s the Bethesda Blues & Jazz Supper Club 3rd Anniversary! You are invited to celebrate this auspicious day with us as we are entertained by, perhaps, the greatest of all jazz bands – The Duke Ellington Orchestra! Joining the orchestra will be the incredible vocalist, Sharón Clark. Duke Ellington, a native Washingtonian, gave American music its own sound for the first time, and is best remembered for the over 3000 songs that he composed including “It Don’t Mean a Thing if It Ain’t Got That Swing,” “Sophisticated Lady,” “Mood Indigo,” “Solitude,” “In a Mellotone,” and “Satin Doll.” Known as the originator of big band jazz, Ellington received 13 Grammy Awards, the Pulitzer Prize, and the Presidential Medal of Freedom. His legacy will endure, and his music comes all the more alive through the performances of The Duke Ellington Orchestra. Sharón Clark, another Washington, DC native, is an interpreter of song who has brought festival and concert audiences to their feet across the U.S. and Europe. Her most recent album, Do It Again, is a fantastic set of songbook standards.
