Wednesday (12/14) There may be a lot to be said for a white Christmas, but internationally-known drummer and vibraphonist Chuck Redd brings us his own take on the season with Redd Christmas! Chuck began recording and touring the globe when he joined the Charlie Byrd Trio at the age of 21. To his credit are 25 European tours and six tours of Japan, with the Barney Kessel Trio, Ken Peplowski and the Benny Goodman Tribute Orchestra, Terry Gibbs, and Conte Candoli. Thursday (12/15) Come out to this fantastic night of music with a soulful sensation! Have you heard this may be the last time you see this artist billed as “Dionne Farris?” Officially speaking, it’s “Dionne.” The Grammy nominated singer you know and love has dropped her last name as an artist. “I’m taking it back to the root,” she says, “to a time before the formalities of “Dionne Farris” when I was simply, Dionne. That’s who created everything the fans love.” Dionne began singing in elementary school and in the early 1990s, she performed as the vocalist on hip hop group Arrested Development’s hit single, “Tennessee.” She rose to fame with the release of her 1994 debut album, Wild Seed – Wild Flower, featuring the single, “I Know.” She was nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance in 1996. Revelation, her new 7-song album with 60-page mini book, is a reflection on, dedication to, and a celebration of the late, great music icon, Prince. Dionne was Prince’s muse for The Truth album; he penned the song “Dionne” to her. Use Discount Code DIONNEBBJ for 50% off your tickets! The concert begins at 8pm.

International Music by Polish Saxophonist Maciej Obara, the Legendary Peter Asher and Albert Lee – Stateside Sounds by Lisa Loeb, Marty Stuart, Judith Hill, plus A Tribute to the Music of Mary J, Fantasia and Erykah Badu

Obara International Quartet, Lisa Loeb, Marty Stuart, Judith Hill, A Tribute to Mary J, Fantasia, and Erykah Badu, Peter Asher and Albert Lee at Bethesda Blues and Jazz Supper Club, June 2016Monday (6/20) Saxophonist and composer Maciej Obara burst onto the international jazz scene after winning the Bielska Zadymka Jazz Contest in 2006 for his album, Message from Oyaho. His International Quartet features Polish countryman Dominik Wania on piano alongside two of Norway’s most in–demand jazz players, bassist Ole Morten Vagan and drummer Gard Nilssen. Reviewing a London performance by the group for The Guardian, John Fordham wrote, “Obara displayed an inventiveness and stamina that reminded me of the veteran improv master Lee Konitz… Obara’s is by inclination a free–jazz group, but it’s one with discipline and a sense of narrative shape.” This event is presented in partnership with the Polish Cultural Institute of New York. Additional support provided by the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Washington, DC and Culture.pl. The concert begins at 8pm.

Tuesday (6/21) Nineties music fans and fans of great pop-singer/songwriter performance, join us for Lisa Loeb, live and in person! Loeb emerged from the New York coffeehouse and club circuits with her trademark Grammy-nominated hit “Stay (I Missed You).” She was, and still is the only artist to ever have a number one Billboard pop single while not signed to a recording contract. Since then, she has been busy with projects including performing children’s music and creating her own line of eyewear. The multi-talented singer/songwriter, inspired to work with co-producer Chad Gilbert, guitarist and founding member of rockers New Found Glory, stirs up a glorious pop/punk rock sound over the course of 12 tracks that are both coolly contemporary yet rough around the edges on her latest musical declaration, No Fairy Tale. Her show starts at 8pm.

Thursday (6/23) If you were to give country music an address, you might say it’s at the corner of sacred and profane, two doors up from the blues and folk, and just across the street from gospel, R&B and rock ‘n’ roll. And for a deeper metaphor on the emotional and spiritual level, you might say it resides where Saturday night meets Sunday morning. No one understands these coordinates better than Marty Stuart. For over forty years Stuart, a Grammy-winning multi-instrumentalist, singer, songwriter, photographer, and historian, has been building a rich legacy at this very crossroads. On his latest release with his band The Fabulous Superlatives, the double-disc Saturday Night & Sunday Morning, Stuart captures all the authentic neon and stained-glass hues of country music – from love and sex to heartache and hardship to family and God – in twenty-three tracks. Come out and let Marty Stuart and his Fabulous Superlatives entertain you with a mix of Stuart originals, classic covers, and traditional hymns – trading off sawdust and sermon along the way. The show begins at 8pm.

Friday (6/24) Please welcome Los Angeles native Judith Hill! Judith Hill has been a background singer for such legends as Stevie Wonder, Elton John, Ringo Starr, and the late Michael Jackson, serving as the latter’s duet partner on the classic ballad, “I Just Can’t Stop Loving You,” which became a highlight of Jackson’s posthumously released film, This Is It. She appeared in the Oscar-winning documentary, 20 Feet From Stardom, a behind-the-scenes look at the lives of several acclaimed background singers, and she also appeared on The Voice, where she began to cement her identity as a knockout solo artist. After hearing her original songs and watching Hill sing live, the legendary Prince knew he was in the presence of a genuine talent, just as Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, and other starts realized before him. He went on to play on and produce Hill’s debut solo album, Back in Time. Offered as a free download for two days in March on LiveNation.com, the album quickly attracted 200,000 downloads. Come experience the brilliance for yourself! The Judith Hill concert will start at 8pm.

Saturday (6/25) Brencore Entertainment Presents “A Tribute to the Music of Mary J, Fantasia and Erykah Badu! Performing the songs of these three incredible performers will be R&B Recording Artist Halima Peru and the Faycez U Know Music Group. The Miami-born Halima Peru’s high-energy performance is second to none – Close your eyes and you will feel the presence of Mary J Blige, Fantasia, and Erykah as Halima channels her talents to deliver on-point performances honoring these artists. Faycez U Know is an American soul and funk band straight from the DMV. This hometown group has the drive of the DC Go-Go swing that will get you groovin’. They have a relentless showmanship that has been compared to the likes of the Rolling Stones, and the versatility of a P-Funk party! This phenomenal tribute gets started at 8pm.

Sunday (6/26) Two music legends from England are about to take over – Peter Asher and Albert Lee! Whether you’re a connoisseur of rock, folk, music of the 60s and 70s, or simply a fan of the well-crafted song, you won’t want to miss this excellent show. As one half of Peter & Gordon, Peter Asher’s voice soared through Carnegie Hall while Albert Lee has been called “the ultimate virtuoso” by none other than the great Eric Clapton. We first came to know Peter Asher via Peter & Gordon’s “A World Without Love,” which topped the charts in the US, UK, and over 30 other countries.  His days as A&R Director for the Beatles’ Apple Records made history, and he became a legend as Producer and Manager of James Taylor, Linda Ronstadt, and a host of others. Albert Lee began his career as a touring musician in the early sixties, and soon catapulted onto the stage with the likes of Joe Cocker, Eric Clapton, and Emmylou Harris. Lee also had had a 25-year run as Music Director of The Everly Brothers. Asher & Lee will perform “I Go To Pieces,” “The Highwayman,” “Handyman,” “Crying in the Rain,” “Bye Bye Love,” and many other beloved tunes. Their WAMMY Award-winning special guests, The Kennedys, are an acoustic pop act with deep roots in the DC area with influences ranging from the British Invasion to California Country-Rock. They’ll kick off the show at 8pm.

Upcoming Shows: Dave Damiani & No Vacancy Orchestra Present the one-and-only Bobby Rydell, the all-female “sensual crank” DC Go-Go band, Be’la Dona, Newmyer Flyer Presents A Southern Soul Tribute, and much more! Check out our Music Calendar for all the latest info.

As always, thanks for your support and for sharing the love of great music! We’ll look forward to seeing you soon.

Known for “Be Your Girl,” “Backstroke,” and “Take Me,” Teedra Moses has also written songs for artists including Christina Milian, Mary J. Blige, Macy Gray, and a host of others.
