Tuesday (2/21) We’ve got two great DC area bands for you – The Jonathan Sloane Band and also The Patty Reese Band, who will be celebrating the release of their new CD, Let In The Sun! Jonathan Sloane is a multi-talented, lifelong musician, instructor, guitarist, and lyricist based in Rockville, Maryland. His compositions, tone, and lyrical lead guitar playing are deeply rooted in the blues – expanding into R&B, rock ‘n’ roll, funk, and soul. The Jonathan Sloane Band has played to sold out crowds at both the local and national level. Sloane also performs and writes songs for Jamison and Double-O-Soul, Wayward Dog and the Jonathan Sloane Trio. Patty Reese has been a favorite of critics and fans in the Mid-Atlantic Region for many years. Her work has been recognized by the Washington Area Music Association which has awarded her 17 WAMMIES, including Artist of the Year, Songwriter and Album of the year, and Roots Rock Band & Vocalist. The new recording, Let In The Sun, “just keeps delivering song after song with clever, timely subjects and solid musical prowess.” The show begins at 8pm.
Wednesday (2/22) Join us for Alan Scott, a singer-songwriter from Washington, DC. His earliest musical experiences begin with a vocal performance at Constitution Hall at age 10. His early teens became guitar-intensive, reconciling the guitar work of Curtis Mayfield with Eddie Van Halen, as he took in the bombast of Hendrix and Jeff Beck and the precision of Earth, Wind & Fire. Today, his sound is driving, danceable rock combined with time-honored, blues, funk and Brit Pop influences. Over the past two decades, Alan has shared the bill with James Brown, Cheap Trick, Hot Tuna, Vertical Horizon, Everclear, The Tom Tom Club, and many more. His songs have been played on 98 Rock, DC 101, and featured on the MTV series Celebrity: Undercover. His newest CD, Wake Up Your Stereo, is available on iTunes. Alan is proudest of his opportunity to share the stage with amazing musicians. Mike Echols, Russell Hayward III, Scott Ambush, Sean Rickman, and many others add their unique genius to this original artist. The show starts at 8pm.
Thursday (2/23) GRAMMY-nominated singer Angie Stone is an artist with the Midas touch. Her buttery smooth honey-toned pipes, undeniable gritty soulfulness and epic songwriting talents have been called upon by everyone from Mary J. Blige, Stevie Wonder, D’Angelo, Alicia Keys and Lenny Kravitz, to name a few. We are proud to have her here at BBJ for two shows! In the 1970s, it was Angie Stone who helped to define the sound of the now legendary Sugar Hill Records as a member of the first recorded female rap group, Sequence. Their hit, “Funk You Up,” is a classic that gets folks moving to this day. Fast forward to the early 2000s when music industry A&R icon Clive Davis tapped Stone’s classic sound when he launched J Records. She recorded her gold-selling Mahogany Soul for the label. This in-demand Renaissance woman moves seamlessly from the studio and stage (she’s starred on Broadway) to television and silver screen without missing a beat. A legend in this tough business, Angie Stone stands in a class by herself. She will perform at 7pm and 10pm.
Friday (2/24) Get ready for the best of The Boss! Bruce In The USA is much more than just another tribute…This high-energy musical experience is a note-perfect and visually accurate recreation of a Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band show. Matt Ryan has performed the “Springsteen” character as a cast member of the “World Famous” Legends In Concert since the year 2000. For more than a decade, Matt has worked as a professional live performance artist in full scale production shows on the Las Vegas Strip and around the world. After years of perfecting his craft in thousands of shows, Matt has evolved the “Springsteen” character into the national touring show it has become today. The Bruce In The USA Band consists of seasoned world class professional musicians, from such acts as Queen/Paul Rogers, Meatloaf, Blue Oyster Cult, Hall and Oats, Joe Cocker, The O’Jays, Aretha Franklin, David Cassidy, The Temptations, Slash, and others. This high end, powerhouse band has taken this genre of performance art to a whole new level, making it the world’s #1 tribute to the E Street Band’s musical legacy. The band starts rockin’ at 8pm.
Sunday (2/26) DC’s premier real country and roots rock/rockabilly band, The Rosslyn Mountain Boys, formed in the 1970s. During the wave of country rock that proliferated during that period, the Boys established themselves as the band to emulate in DC, not only for their country and rockabilly proficiency, but also their many distinctive originals. Since 1978, The Rosslyn Mountain Boys have been: Joe Triplett (lead vocals/rhythm guitar), Tommy Hannum (pedal steel guitar/vocals/6-string), Peter “Tex Luigi” Bonta (piano/6–string/vocals), Bob Berberich (drums/vocals) and Rico Petruccelli (bass/vocals). The band was inducted into the Washington Area Music Association WAMA Hall of Fame in 2010. Joining The Rosslyn Mountain Boys will be Bob Perilla’s Big Hillbilly Bluegrass. Don’t miss this countrified, roots rockin’, dance night!
Next week will be an exciting one as we celebrate our 4th Anniversary with two nights of great performances by the one-and-only Dionne Warwick!
