Kim Jordan's Gil Scott-Heron tribute, Jazz and Soul, Maggie Rose, and A Drag Salute to Motown Twisted at Bethesda Blues and Jazz Supper Club, November - December 2016Wednesday (11/30) The revolution may not be televised, but it will hit the stage live with Kim Jordan’s multimedia concert, A Tribute to Gil Scott-Heron! Kim Jordan, an extraordinarily gifted artist, keyboardist, producer, composer, arranger, vocal coach, and promoter received her BA in music from Howard University. Upon graduation, she was immediately hired by and became musical director for jazz poet Gil Scott-Heron, touring the world with him for over 30 years until his untimely death in 2011. She received international acclaim for her live performances from such publications as The London Guardian, The San Francisco Examiner, The Chicago Tribune, The Washington Post, Vibe, and Billboard.  With over 35 years of experience in the music industry, Kim has been a trailblazer for the musical genre “Gospel Jazz.” Her Gil Scott-Heron tribute features video footage, audio clips, and some of Gil’s most prolific songs as told from Kim’s unique perspective as longtime musical director and friend. The show starts at 8pm.

Thursday (12/1) Join us for a fantastic evening of Jazz & Soul with four powerful performers! Quickly becoming a recognized name in contemporary jazz, David P Stevens is multi-talented guitarist, writer, producer, and performer who has shared the stage with Gerald Albright, Nick Colionne, Najee, Frank McComb, and others. Lin Rountree aka The Soul-Trumpeter has had twelve Top 20 Billboard singles and numerous collaborations with top R&B/Contemporary Jazz artists. 6’7″ lead bass player from Kansas City, Julian Vaughn laid down a strong statement with his self-released debut, The Purpose Project, in 2010. Debórah Bond credits Anita Baker, Chaka Khan, and Sade as the roots which shaped her sound, an eclectic mix of R&B, funk and British soul. The Jazz & Soul concert begins at 8pm.

Friday (12/2) Come see the homecoming show of an amazing country artist! Maggie Rose is cool and confident, yet warm and approachable with a laugh that’s as melodic as the songs she sings. Maybe she was born under a special star; how else can you explain her journey from Potomac, Maryland – hardly a mecca for country music – to Nashville by way of storied record executive Tommy Mottola who has worked with the likes of Celine Dion and Mariah Carey? Through the disappointments that face any new artist – promises broken, faith rattled – Maggie has persevered, and her experiences hold the promise of longevity. Her first album title, Cut to Impress, was chosen from lyrics. She says, “‘Cut to impress’ … jumped out to me because it represents so much about this album… But it’s also that I’ve finally cut out a place for myself as an artist that is unique and real.” Her latest triumph, The Variety Show, Vol 1, is out now. Maggie Rose will be sharing the stage with The Morrison Brothers, who dutifully farm the fertile soil between mainstream country music and southern rock. Don’t miss this special evening dedicated to a winning combo! The show starts at 8pm.

Sunday (12/4) Behold, the DC drag queen — there’s nothing quite as fierce or as likely to make you want to get up and dance yourself! A Drag Salute to Motown Twisted is a two-hour show featuring performers as they sing, dance, and impersonate popular female & male artists, and get the audience in on the act. Enter the magical world of illusion as your favorite divas and divos dazzle right before your eyes: Diana Ross, Mary Wells, The Four Tops, The Temptations, Rick James, Teena Marie, and Martha and the Vandellas replicated by DC’s top illusionists. Performing at Bethesda Blues and Jazz is a dream come true for the show’s creator, director, and cast member Shi-Queeta-Lee, who has been seen on America’s Got Talent, Ugly Betty, Drag City: DC, and R&B Divas.
