Celebrate Four Years of Great Music at BBJ with Dionne Warwick in Concert! Celebrate Women’s Voices with The Wonder Women Blues Festival
and Sweet Honey In The Rock!

Dionne Warwick at BBJ 4th Anniversary, Daryl Davis Presents Wonder Women of Blues, and Sweet Honey in the Rock at Bethesda Blues and Jazz Supper Club Feb-March 2017Tuesday – Wednesday (2/28 – 3/1) We are pleased to have the great Dionne Warwick here to help us celebrate four years of sharing music and entertainment in Bethesda! Scintillating, soothing and sensual best describes the familiar and legendary voice of five-time GRAMMY Award winning music legend Dionne Warwick, a cornerstone of American pop music and culture. During Warwick’s renowned 50-year career she has established herself as an international music icon and live act. She has earned more than sixty charted hit songs, making her the second most charted female of all time, and sold over 100 million records worldwide. She began singing professionally in 1961 after being discovered by a young songwriting team Burt Bacharach and Hal David. Her first hit “Don’t Make Me Over” came in 1962, which was immediately followed by a decade of more than 18 consecutive Top 100 singles. Ms. Warwick’s classic cover of “That’s What Friends are For” in 1985 became one of her most lauded hits and since then she continues to awe audiences with her distinctive voice. The concerts begin at 8pm each evening.

Saturday (3/4) Join Daryl Davis as he celebrates, honors, and pays tribute to the first and most influential form of American music, the blues. This time, special honors go to female artists at the Wonder Women Blues Festival! The Blues was the foundation and platform for jazz, country, gospel, rock ’n’ roll, rockabilly, zydeco, swing, R&B, and just about every other form of American music. In the early days of the blues, female singers outnumbered male blues singers. It is said, “Behind every good man, is a good woman.”  We proudly tip our hat to these phenomenal females, putting them up front and center, with the good men behind them providing musical support. Featured artists at the Wonder Women of Blues Festival will be Mama Moon, Angela Hill, Deletta Gillespie, Gayle Harrod, Patty Reese, Sandra Dean, and Hayley Fahey. Bandleader Daryl Davis has worked extensively with Chuck Berry, The Legendary Blues Band (formerly The Muddy Waters Blues Band), Elvis Presley’s Jordanaires, Sam Moore, Percy Sledge, Hubert Sumlin, Trudy Lynn, Mavis John, and many others. The music starts at 8pm.

Sunday (3/5) Come out and hear the amazing Sweet Honey In The Rock®! This phenomenal group remains among the most vibrant, versatile and ever relevant musical collectives in music today, both as a performance ensemble and as an ambassadorial African American organization founded on the triumvirate missions of empowerment, education and entertainment. Sweet Honey In The Rock currently consists of members Carol Maillard, Louise Robinson, Nitanju Bolade Casel, Aisha Kahlil, American Sign Language interpreter Shirley Childress (who continues the group’s distinct and long-standing commitment to the deaf community), and featured musician Romeir Mendez on upright acoustic bass and electric bass. Sweet Honey In The Rock is a powerful and unique concert entity that fuses the elastic 360 degree possibilities of the human voice with a theatrical flair that keeps avid audiences returning for more year after year. This internationally renowned GRAMMY-nominated female a cappella vocal quartet has a history of over four decades of distinguished service. They have created positive, loving, and socially conscious message music that matters as it pertains to spiritual fortification, and have consistently taken an activist stance toward making this planet a better place for all in which to live. The concert begins at 7pm.

Rockabilly, Classic Pop, and Sensual Soul! A Week of Great Music featuring
Chanté Moore, Steve Tyrell, The Rock-A-Sonics, & The Soul Crackers

Gail Harrod, Gary Grainger, The Rock-A-Sonics, Chante Moore, The Soul Crackers, and Steve Tyrell at Bethesda Blues and Jazz Supper Club, April-May 2016Monday (4/25) IT’S OUR BIRTHDAY! It was one year ago this week that we started the Daryl Davis Presents: Monday Night Concert Series. To party it up right, we’ve got blues, rock, and soul singer Gayle Harrod in the house. Gayle has been making a name for herself in the DMV – She invokes the spirit of divas like Koko Taylor, Tina Turner, Bonnie Raitt, Aretha Franklin, Etta James, and Big Mama Thornton, all in her own soulful way. Bring your dancing shoes or sit back and listen. Our host, boogie-woogie piano master Daryl Davis has worked with Elvis Presley’s Jordanaires, Chuck Berry, The Legendary Blues Band, Percy Sledge, Jerry Lee Lewis, The Coasters, The Platters, The Drifters, and many others. Admission is FREE with $10 minimum food and beverage per guest. The party starts at 7:30pm.

Tuesday (4/26) It’s time once again for our perennial favorite Tuesday night event… The Grainger Jam! This is a great opportunity for singers and musicians to jam with bassist Gary Grainger, drummer Greg Grainger, and their world-class musician friends. The Grainger Jam is where you want to be whether you join in with the band or just enjoy the music. Hosted by Brandon Combs and Bryan Fox with friends Vince Evans and Benji Porecki. The Jam starts at 8pm.

Wednesday (4/27) The Rock-A-Sonics are a rockabilly band straight from the DMV! They first got together with no name and just intending to play a single show – a Buddy Holly tribute in early 2014. The ad hoc band members bonded instantly over their common enthusiasm for rockabilly, country, and early rock ‘n’ roll. The Rock-A-Sonics were born! Notable appearances include MusikFest, Night Of 100 Elvises, Hot Rod Rumble, Barns of WolfTrap, Rockabilly Rumble, Gypsy Sally’s, Rock and Roll Hotel, Day Of The Book, and they are soon to appear at the 2016 Viva Las Vegas Weekender. The band is currently wrapping up their first long player, so stay tuned! The show starts at 8pm.

Thursday – Friday (4/28 and 4/29) We’ve got Chanté Moore, live in concert, two nights in a row! Moore made her recording debut in 1992 with the release of the Gold-selling Precious (“Love’s Taken Over” and “It’s Alright”). A Love Supreme (“Old School Lovin’”) came in 1994, followed by her Grammy-nominated This Moment Is Mine featuring the gold-selling single “Chanté’s Got A Man.” In 2002, Moore had the distinction of winning a Soul Train Music Award for Best R&B/Soul Single for the song “Contagious,” featuring The Isley Brothers and R. Kelly. In 2004, 20th Century Masters issued a greatest hits collection. With seven albums, twenty charting singles, and collaborations including Prince, R. Kelly, Boyz II Men, El DeBarge, The Isley Brothers, Babyface, and Raphael Saddiq, singer Chanté Moore was destined to sing. This is your chance to hear her for yourself! Her concerts start at 8pm both nights.

Saturday (4/30) Take some of the greatest party music ever made, make sure it’s sung and played by a band that has made a career out of belting out those sweet soul sounds – and you’ve got yourself a real good time. Meet The Soul Crackers! With music focused on the Memphis and Motown sounds, The Soul Crackers perform timeless songs by artists like Sam & Dave, Average White Band, Martha & The Vandellas, Wilson Pickett, and others. Formed in 1982, the SOUL CRACKERS have headlined shows including the Adams Morgan Day Festival, have performed in clubs like The Bayou and The Wax Museum, and they even gave a command performance at The White House in 1994. Theirs is the kind of music that has the power to bring together all ages and personalities together for an unforgettable dance party. The band starts at 8pm.

Sunday (5/1) Grammy Award-winning vocalist Steve Tyrell is truly a renaissance man, and we have him here live! In over four decades in the music business, he has achieved great success as an artist, producer, songwriter, music supervisor, and performer. With his breakthrough performances in Father of the Bride and Father of the Bride II, Steve Tyrell reinvented and repopularized classic pop standards for a modern-day audience. With the grit and soul of a lifetime of experiences producing hits for artists ranging from Linda Ronstadt and Aaron Neville to Rod Stewart and Diana Ross, Steve has sold hundreds of thousands of albums and gained a passionate following all over the world. His hits including “The Way You Look Tonight,” “The Simple Life,” “Crush On You,” and “The Sunny Side of The Street” have launched thousands of weddings and millions of romances. Come hear his magic! The concert starts at 8pm.

Don’t forget to join us for our upcoming special events – Mother’s Day with “The Rat Pack” and Father’s Day with Harold Melvin’s Blue Notes! There is so much more coming your way, and new shows are being added all the time. Check our Music Calendar for the latest!
