As the worldwide ambassadors of Go-Go, an older cousin of Hip-Hop, Trouble Funk has taken their sound from the gritty streets of DC to the clubs of the nation and the festivals around the world for the past 30 plus years. Their anthems include “Drop the Bomb,” “Pump Me Up,” “Let’s Get Small,” “Trouble Funk Express,” “So Early in the Morning,” “Saturday Night Live From Washington, DC, Parts 1 & 2,” “Say What?” and two R&B/ Hip-Hop Billboard charting tracks, “Still Smokin'” and “Good to Go.” The show starts at 8pm.
Thursday (9/15) Since breaking through to contemporary urban jazz stardom in the early 2000s, Nick Colionne has been one of the genre´s most dynamic and tireless live performers, headlining hundreds of shows and energizing fans across the U.S. and Europe with his sizzling blend of jazz, R&B, funk, blues, and soulful, seductive vocals. Over the years, the charismatic, inspirationally fashionable (courtesy of designer Stacy Adams) Chicago based guitarist’s album titles have kept everyone in the loop as to where his musical heart is. He has mastered the art of Keepin´ It Cool (2006), pushed musical boundaries to a place where there are No Limits (2008), urged us to Feel The Heat (2011) and later explored some of his deepest Influences (2014). Nick has received numerous accolades throughout his multi-faceted career, including the 2007 International Instrumental Artist of the Year Award at the Wave Jazz Awards, Artist of the Year at the 2011 Rehoboth Beach Jazz Festival and Performer of the Year for Jazz Trax Jazz Festivals in 2010 and 2011. The Nick Colionne concert begins at 8pm.
Friday (9/16) This is going to be a fun night! The Beat Hotel is a 10-piece band with a 3-piece horn section playing New Orleans Swamp Funk music. The band captures the Crescent City’s unique musical hybrid of R&B, funk, soul, and blues with a wonderful groove sensibility that is creative and fresh. The band was formed after musical director and lead guitarist Bruce Blaylock returned to his hometown of Bethesda after having moved to New Orleans for college and law school at Tulane University. With the roots of its music deep in the Bayou (The Neville Brothers, Dr. John, The Meters, Alan Toussaint, Lee Dorsey, Jon Cleary, Henry Butler, etc.), The Beat Hotel has well-crafted melodies, a kicking horn section, rich vocal harmonies, and deep grooves that consistently energize music festivals and clubs wherever they play. Sharing the stage with The Beat Hotel will be original roots rock band The Rhodes Tavern Troubadours. The music starts at 8pm.
Sunday (9/18) Enter the magical world of illusion with A Drag Salute to the Divas! Your favorite divas will dazzle right before your eyes! Tina Turner, Beyonce, Diana Ross, Dolly Parton, Chaka Khan, Liza Minelli, Jill Scott, Marvin Gaye, Fantasia, and Whitney Houston will be replicated by DC’s top illusionists so well you will swear they are the real thing. Creator, director, and cast member Shi-Queeta-Lee has been seen on NBC’s America’s Got Talent, ABC’s Ugly Betty, reality shows DCTV’s Drag City: DC and TV One’s R&B Divas. The glitz, glamour, and spectacularly duplicated performances will leave you amazed, intrigued, and completely blown away. The Divas take the stage at 8pm.
