Monday (5/16) At ease equally with Country, Jazz, Blues, R&B, Gospel, and Rock ’n’ Roll, stellar vocalist Angela Hill returns to our stage. She is a large package of dynamite in a small frame! She has been compared to Brenda Lee, and she leads two Gospel choirs in Washington Metropolitan churches when she’s not moonlighting on the nightclub and festival concert circuit. Chicago native Daryl Davis graduated from Howard University with a degree in Jazz. He was mentored by legendary pianists Pinetop Perkins and Johnnie Johnson. He has worked with Elvis Presley’s Jordanaires, Chuck Berry, The Legendary Blues Band, Percy Sledge, Jerry Lee Lewis, The Coasters, The Platters, The Drifters, and many others. It’s a Dance Night with ½ off select bottles of wine and NO COVER (Only $10 minimum food or beverage). The show starts at 7:30pm.
Friday (5/20) Get into the sounds of one of the most prolific musical ensembles in history! inGratitude: A Tribute to Earth, Wind & Fire will rule the stage with an impressive body of familiar EW&F tunes, emphasizing the classic years from 1973 to 1985. The 13-piece band is led by four exceptional male vocalists and includes talented and established musicians who have performed and recorded with many of the world’s greatest artists such as Nancy Wilson, Teddy Pendergrass, Bonnie Raitt, Chaka Khan, Bootsy Collins, Phyllis Hyman, John Scofield, and George Clinton. Members of Pockets, the EW&F-produced, Baltimore-based, 80’s band are featured as principal members. This tribute has been selling out area venues including Rams Head on Stage, Maryland Live Casino, The Hamilton, and The Birchmere. inGratitude offers an enthusiastic evening of appreciation of the legendary Maurice White, of the soundtrack of a generation, and of some of the greatest music of our time. The tribute starts at 8pm.
Saturday (5/21) Come out and welcome back Bethesda’s hometown band, The VI-Kings, as they return for their 4th headlining appearance at Bethesda Blues & Jazz Supper Club! What’s in store when you go to a Vi-Kings show? You might say their breeze blew through Liverpool, Surrey, and Richmond, out of the Haight, down Sunset Boulevard, up the Mississippi, and along South Michigan Avenue. It blew down Beacon Street, across Washington Park, and into Georgetown. Basically, the music of The VI-Kings is the 1960’s soundtrack of your life. You’ll hear The Beatles, The Stones, The Kinks, Credence Clearwater Revival, Dylan, The Byrds, The Yardbirds, and more… There’s a reason this wonderful music has endured throughout the decades. This will be a joyous celebration of great music and a rockin’ Saturday night! The show begins at 8pm.
Sunday (5/22) Rock royalty Denny Laine will be here to perform a truly classic album! As he celebrates the 40th anniversary of the Wings Over America tour, Laine has taken to the road with a live performance of their greatest album, Band on the Run — complete and unabridged! By far the most successful album involving any of The Beatles following their breakup, Band on the Run was created by Paul McCartney, Denny Laine, and Linda McCartney. Band On the Run transcended the era to become an album whose deep cuts such as “Let Me Roll It,” “Picasso’s Last Words,” “Mrs. Vanderbilt,” and “Bluebird” are better remembered-and played more often on classic rock radio-than most hits of the era. Expect other Wings hits such as “Live and Let Die” as well as Denny’s legendary lead vocal on the Moody Blues classic “Go Now” to round out this special anniversary show. We are proud to have this rock legend here to perform these timeless tracks. The concert starts at 8pm.
Of course we’ve got more great shows for you coming right up! We’ll have Father’s Day with Harold Melvin’s Blue Notes, Lisa Loeb, Be’la Dona, The Spinners, The Yardbirds, The Chuck Brown Band, and our very own tribute to a great artist we lost far too soon, Prince. Visit our Music Calendar for more info and tickets to these and all our other events.
Thank you so much for showing up and keeping jazz, blues, plus great classic rock and soul alive and well in downtown Bethesda!
